The mystery surrounding Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia's death deepens with the news that he was found with a pillow over his face.
According to published news reports Scalia, who was a robust 79, died of a heart attack in the "el presidente" suite at a Texas hunting ranch.
A pillow was found over his face and the bed sheets were unwrinkled, according to the reports.
Presidio County Judge Cinderela Guevara signed off on the cause of death. Despite the strange circumstances there will be no autopsy, as is often the case when someone dies of natural causes.
Judge Guevara was apparently persuaded that Scalia died of a myocardial infraction even though she never examined the body. The judge spoke with Scalia's doctor whom he visited with a week before he died, complaining of shoulder pain.
Shoulder pain is one of the early symptoms of a heart attack.
Judge Guevara defended her decision this way:
“When [the physician] explained [Scalia] had just visited on Wednesday and Thursday and [the doctor] had done an MRI, then I felt comfortable what I knew was going on with him physically,” Guevara said.
But questions still linger.
Many point out the fact tha -- just last week -- presidential candidate Hillary Clinton suggested she would appoint President Barack Obama to the Supreme Court if she were elected president.
But a sitting Supreme Court justice would have to die first for that to happen.
What a coincidence…
Scalia's death opens up a whole new can of worms. Specifically Obama rushing to nominate a liberal lawyer to fill the conservative Scalia's vacant seat.
But the Republican heavy Senate has already vowed to shoot down any and all of Obama's choices, meaning there will be only 8 justices on the Supreme Court until after Obama leaves office.
Filling Scalia's empty seat is important to the Democrats because it means the incoming president (Donald Trump) can't overturn Obama's liberal policies, such as the woefully inefficient Obamacare. At least not right away.
